Silat EVO is the latest evolution in Malaysia’s martial arts landscape, developed by PASSMAL and led by Dr. Mohamad Nizam Shapie. It represents a bold step forward in modernising Silat Melayu, blending tradition with innovation to create a combat sport format that is safe, structured, and globally competitive.
Unlike traditional Silat, which is often practiced in ceremonial or cultural settings, Silat EVO is designed for professional competition. It introduces a cage-style arena, refined scoring systems, and performance analytics, making it suitable for youth development, elite athletes, and international showcases.
The name “EVO” reflects its purpose—evolution. It builds upon the foundations of Silat Tempur, a youth-friendly format introduced to teach safe sparring and technical skills. Silat EVO takes these principles further, offering a platform for advanced tactical training, sports science integration, and global recognition.
One of the key goals of Silat EVO is to empower youth. In a time when young people face challenges such as bullying, low self-esteem, and lack of direction, Silat EVO provides a positive outlet. It teaches discipline, respect, and emotional control—values deeply rooted in Silat philosophy.
Silat EVO also supports Malaysia’s Vision 2030 for sports innovation and cultural diplomacy. Through partnerships with UiTM, UNESCO ICM, and IMACSSS, Silat EVO is being introduced to international audiences, positioning Malaysia as a leader in martial arts education and research.
At the M-MAF2025 (Malaysia Martial Arts Festival), Silat EVO was showcased in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (KPM) as part of an anti-bullying youth programme. The event highlighted how martial arts can be used not just for competition, but for character development and social impact.
In summary, Silat EVO is more than a sport—it’s a movement. It represents the future of Silat Melayu, where tradition meets technology, and where youth are empowered to grow into confident, respectful, and resilient individuals.
