Purpose of the Study:
To analyze the performance indicators and activity profiles of young male athletes during Silat Tempur matches in the 2019 national competitions, focusing on differences between winners and losers.
Key Findings:
- Techniques Used:
- Five core techniques analyzed: punch, kick, block, catch, and topple.
- Kicks (43.3%) and punches (41.8%) were the most frequently used techniques.
- Catch (1.5%) and topple (0%) were rarely used, indicating limited application among young athletes.
- Performance Outcomes:
- Hit Target (HT): 50.6% of total actions.
- Hit Elsewhere (HE): 32.5%.
- Miss Opponent (MO): 16.9%.
- Winners performed more HT actions (69%) compared to losers (31%).
- Statistical Significance:
- Matched-samples t-test showed significant difference in HT outcomes between winners and losers (p < 0.05).
- HT was the strongest indicator of scoring and winning.
- Athlete Characteristics:
- Taller athletes had higher success with kicks.
- Winners demonstrated better balance between attack and defense.
- Blocking was more common among winners (54%) than losers (46%).
Practical Implications for Silat:
- Silat Tempur is a suitable developmental platform for children aged 7–13 to learn basic combat skills in a safe, structured environment.
- Kicking and punching are the most effective techniques for scoring in youth competitions.
- Catch and topple techniques require higher coordination and confidence, and may be introduced gradually as athletes mature.
- Coaches should focus on developing anaerobic power and tactical awareness, especially for kicking and punching.
Tips for Application:
Athletes:
- Focus on mastering punches and kicks for effective scoring.
- Practice defensive techniques like blocking to balance attack strategies.
Parents:
- Encourage participation in Silat Tempur for safe and structured martial arts exposure.
- Support training that builds confidence and physical coordination.
Coaches:
- Use video analysis and notational techniques to assess athlete performance.
- Gradually introduce advanced techniques like catch and topple as athletes gain experience.
- Design training to enhance lower-body power and reaction time.
