5 Powerful Ways Silat Malaysia Is Uniting Youth and Elevating National Pride

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 July 2025 – As Malaysia continues to foster unity through culture and sport, Silat Malaysia, under the leadership of Dr. Mohamad Nizam Shapie, is proving to be a powerful tool for youth empowerment and national identity.

Through the combined efforts of PASSMAL and the World Silat Federation (WSF), Silat programmes are being used not only to train athletes but to shape character, instil patriotism, and build resilient communities.

5 Silat Programmes That Promote Unity and Patriotism:

  1. Silat Tempur for Schools – A combat sport model for children that teaches discipline, respect, and teamwork while introducing them to Malay heritage.
  2. Silat for Anti-Bullying Campaigns – PASSMAL collaborates with the Ministry of Education to use Silat as a platform for youth empowerment and violence prevention.
  3. Silat Cultural Camps – Held during school holidays, these camps combine martial arts training with traditional music, dance, and values education.
  4. Silat in National Day Celebrations – Silat performances are now a staple in Merdeka parades and cultural showcases, reinforcing national pride.
  5. Silat as a Co-Curricular Subject – With the Silat Malaysia Curriculum adopted in schools and universities, students now learn Silat as part of their formal education.

“Silat is more than self-defence—it’s a vessel for unity, identity, and leadership,” said Dr. Nizam during a youth forum in Kuala Lumpur.

These initiatives have reached over 10,000 students nationwide in the first half of 2025, with plans to expand into rural and underserved communities by year-end.
