Kuala Lumpur, June 2025 – PASSMAL is making waves in the academic world with its Silat Malaysia Curriculum, a structured educational framework that is now being positioned as a global model for martial arts education. The curriculum, developed through years of research and collaboration with universities, integrates traditional Silat techniques with modern sports science and pedagogy.
The initiative aims to standardize Silat training across schools, universities, and community programs, ensuring consistency in teaching methods while preserving cultural authenticity. PASSMAL has already introduced the curriculum in several Malaysian institutions, and discussions are underway to expand its adoption internationally through partnerships with UNESCO ICM and IMACSSS.
“This curriculum is not just about physical training—it’s about creating a holistic learning experience,” said Dr. Mohamad Nizam Mohamed Shapie, General Manager of PASSMAL. “We combine heritage, biomechanics, and psychology to produce athletes, researchers, and educators who understand Silat in depth.”
The Silat Malaysia Curriculum includes modules on:
- Technical Skills: Mastery of traditional Silat movements and combat strategies.
- Sports Science: Conditioning, injury prevention, and performance analytics.
- Cultural Studies: History, philosophy, and values of Silat Melayu.
- Research Methodology: Encouraging academic inquiry into martial arts.
PASSMAL’s approach has attracted attention from international scholars seeking to study martial arts as part of cultural and physical education programs. Collaborative research projects are being planned to analyze Silat’s biomechanics, psychological benefits, and its role in promoting social cohesion.
The curriculum also supports digital learning through platforms like Silat for Beginners, enabling global access to structured Silat education. This move aligns with PASSMAL’s vision of academicising Silat and positioning Malaysia as a leader in martial arts research.
Experts believe the Silat Malaysia Curriculum could influence policy development for martial arts education worldwide. By offering a comprehensive framework that balances tradition and innovation, PASSMAL is setting a precedent for how cultural heritage can be integrated into modern education systems.
As Malaysia continues to champion Silat on the global stage, the curriculum stands as a testament to PASSMAL’s commitment to excellence in both practice and scholarship. With ongoing research collaborations and international interest, Silat Malaysia is poised to become a cornerstone of global martial arts education.
