PASSMAL Strengthens Cultural Diplomacy Through Silat

Kuala Lumpur, July 2025 – PASSMAL is leveraging Silat Malaysia as a powerful instrument of cultural diplomacy, forging new international partnerships and promoting Malaysia’s heritage on the global stage. The organization’s initiatives this month underscore its commitment to using martial arts as a bridge for intercultural dialogue and cooperation.

Building on its recent successes at ACPES 2025 and iMAN25, PASSMAL has announced plans to host a series of Silat cultural showcases in Europe and Asia later this year. These events will feature live demonstrations, academic forums, and training workshops aimed at introducing Silat to new audiences while fostering mutual understanding among nations.

“Silat is more than a martial art—it is a cultural ambassador,” said Dr. Mohamad Nizam Mohamed Shapie, General Manager of PASSMAL. “Through Silat, we share Malaysia’s values of respect, resilience, and unity with the world.”

The initiative aligns with Malaysia’s broader cultural diplomacy strategy, which emphasizes the role of heritage in strengthening international relations. PASSMAL’s collaboration with organizations such as UNESCO ICM and IMACSSS has positioned Silat as a model for preserving intangible heritage while promoting global peace and cooperation.

In addition to cultural showcases, PASSMAL is expanding its academic footprint through joint research projects with foreign universities. These collaborations will explore Silat’s historical significance, biomechanics, and its potential as a tool for youth development and social cohesion.

International interest in Silat continues to grow, with several countries expressing interest in adopting PASSMAL’s Silat Malaysia Curriculum for educational programs. This move is expected to create new opportunities for cultural exchange and academic partnerships, reinforcing Malaysia’s leadership in martial arts education.

PASSMAL’s efforts also include digital outreach through platforms like Silat for Beginners, enabling global learners to access structured training and cultural content online. This approach ensures that Silat remains relevant in an increasingly connected world, bridging geographical and cultural divides.

As Malaysia celebrates these achievements, PASSMAL’s vision remains clear: to position Silat as a global symbol of heritage and harmony. With upcoming international events and research collaborations, Silat is poised to play an even greater role in shaping Malaysia’s cultural diplomacy agenda.
