Purpose of the Study:
To analyze and compare the activity profiles and action outcomes between winners and losers in international Silat Olahraga matches, using notational analysis to identify key performance indicators.
Key Findings:
- Most Common Actions:
- Kicks (726 actions), punches (324), and topples (314) were the most frequent techniques used.
- Lower limbs were predominantly used for attacking.
- Performance Differences:
- Winners performed significantly more topples and blocks than losers.
- Losers performed more punches and kicks but had lower accuracy.
- Significant differences were found in punch, kick, topple, and block actions.
- Outcomes:
- Winners had significantly more Hit Target (HT) actions (34.16 vs. 22.00).
- Losers had more Hit Elsewhere (HE) and Missing Opponent (MO) actions.
- Toppling yielded the highest score (3 points), followed by kicks (2 points) and punches (1 point).
Practical Implications:
- For Competitions:
- Focus on accuracy over volume of attacks; HT is more valuable than frequent but inaccurate actions.
- Emphasize toppling techniques in training due to their higher point value.
- Defensive skills like blocking are crucial for match success.
- For Organizations (if not used for competition):
- Use findings to develop performance analysis tools and training benchmarks.
- Inform curriculum development for Silat Malaysia (SSM2050) with emphasis on high-scoring techniques.
- Support video-based match analysis for athlete development and coaching feedback.
Tips for Application:
Athletes:
- Train to improve target accuracy in kicks and punches.
- Develop toppling techniques to maximize scoring potential.
- Practice defensive actions like blocking and dodging to reduce opponent scoring.
Parents:
- Encourage athletes to focus on quality of execution and strategic techniques.
- Support participation in training that includes technical and tactical analysis.
Coaches:
- Prioritize topple and block training in match preparation.
- Use notational analysis to assess athlete performance and guide improvements.
- Educate athletes on scoring systems to align training with competition strategies.
