Kuala Lumpur, July 2025 – Malaysia continues to assert its leadership in global martial arts governance through the World Silat Federation (WSF), with PASSMAL playing a central role in shaping international standards, policies, and development strategies for Silat.
As the official representative of Malaysia in the WSF, PASSMAL has been instrumental in promoting structured governance, athlete development, and international collaboration. The organization’s leadership, under Dr. Mohamad Nizam Mohamed Shapie, has helped position Malaysia as a key decision-maker in the global Silat community.
“Malaysia is not only the birthplace of Silat Melayu—it is now the center of Silat governance,” said Dr. Nizam. “Through the World Silat Federation, we are building a unified framework that respects tradition while embracing global standards.”
The WSF, headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, oversees Silat activities across more than 30 member countries. PASSMAL’s contributions include the development of standardized competition rules, coaching certification pathways, and athlete welfare policies. These efforts aim to professionalize Silat and prepare it for inclusion in major international sporting events.
In recent months, PASSMAL has initiated working groups within the WSF to explore areas such as:
- Silat in Youth Sports: Creating safe and inclusive pathways for children and teens.
- Silat Research and Innovation: Encouraging academic studies and technological integration.
- Global Silat Curriculum: Sharing Malaysia’s Silat Malaysia Curriculum with member nations.
The federation also supports cultural diplomacy through Silat showcases and training exchanges. Countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey, and France have expressed interest in adopting Malaysia’s governance model and participating in joint development programs.
PASSMAL’s leadership in the WSF reflects Malaysia’s broader commitment to martial arts excellence. By combining heritage preservation with modern governance, the organization is setting a global benchmark for how traditional combat arts can evolve responsibly.
Plans are underway to host the WSF International Congress in 2026, where Malaysia will present its latest innovations, including Silat EVO and Silat Tempur, as part of a global strategy to expand Silat’s reach and relevance.
As the WSF continues to grow, Malaysia’s role remains pivotal. Through PASSMAL’s vision and expertise, Silat is not only thriving—it is being shaped into a globally respected discipline governed with integrity, inclusivity, and cultural pride.
