Putrajaya, June 2025 – PASSMAL continues to strengthen its commitment to youth development with the nationwide rollout of Silat Tempur, a structured combat sports education program designed specifically for children. The initiative, which integrates Silat techniques with age-appropriate training modules, is gaining traction in schools and community centers across Malaysia.
Silat Tempur is part of PASSMAL’s broader strategy to modernize Silat Malaysia while nurturing discipline, confidence, and cultural pride among young Malaysians. The program introduces children to basic combat movements, self-defense skills, and sportsmanship values through a safe and engaging curriculum.
“Silat Tempur is more than just physical training—it’s character building,” said Dr. Mohamad Nizam Mohamed Shapie, Silat Expert of PASSMAL. “We want to instill the values of Silat early, so children grow up with a strong sense of identity and resilience.”
The program has been endorsed by educators and parents alike, with many praising its positive impact on student behavior and focus. PASSMAL has trained over 200 certified instructors to deliver Silat Tempur sessions nationwide, ensuring consistency and safety in implementation.
In addition to physical training, Silat Tempur incorporates cultural education, teaching children about the history and philosophy of Silat Melayu. This holistic approach aligns with PASSMAL’s mission to preserve Malay martial arts heritage while adapting to modern educational needs.
Recent pilot programs in Selangor and Johor have shown promising results, with increased student participation and improved physical literacy. PASSMAL plans to expand the initiative to rural areas and collaborate with the Ministry of Education to integrate Silat Tempur into co-curricular activities.
International interest in the program is also growing. Delegates from Southeast Asia and the Middle East have expressed interest in adopting Silat Tempur as part of youth sports development. PASSMAL is currently exploring partnerships to export the model abroad, further positioning Malaysia as a leader in martial arts education.
