KUALA LUMPUR, 1 March 2025 – The Silat Tempur programme, a pioneering initiative by PASSMAL and the World Silat Federation (WSF), is gaining momentum across Malaysia as schools and youth centres embrace the child-friendly combat sport model.
Developed by Dr. Mohamad Nizam Shapie, Silat Tempur is designed to introduce children to the fundamentals of Silat in a safe, structured, and engaging format. The programme focuses on agility, discipline, and cultural values, making it a holistic approach to martial arts education.
6 Ways Silat Tempur Is Revolutionising Combat Sports for Children:
- Age-Appropriate Techniques – Silat Tempur uses simplified movements tailored for children aged 7–12, ensuring safety and skill development.
- Educational Integration – The programme is now part of co-curricular activities in selected schools, aligning with national education goals.
- Character Building – Beyond physical training, Silat Tempur instils respect, teamwork, and resilience in young participants.
- Inclusive Participation – Open to boys and girls of all backgrounds, the programme promotes unity and cultural appreciation.
- Structured Progression – Children advance through levels using a belt system, motivating consistent learning and achievement.
- National & International Exposure – Silat Tempur competitions are now held at district and state levels, with plans for ASEAN-wide youth championships under WSF.
“Silat Tempur is not just about fighting—it’s about shaping future leaders through martial arts,” said Dr. Nizam during a youth martial arts forum in Putrajaya.
With growing interest from educators and parents, PASSMAL aims to expand Silat Tempur to 100 new schools by the end of 2025.
